Welcome to Melbourne. here's a few thoughts & tips that might help.
On Sunday we start registrations at BMW Edge at Federation Square. Everyone in Melbourne knows where that is. Drinks are at 6.30 at Old Treasury Building in Spring Street.
On Monday we start at Federation Square: BMW Edge. Then we travel by all means (tram, bike, walk, taxi,) to Melbourne Museum and we conclude with a performance, drinks and nibbles behind the museum.
On Tuesday we all travel to Ballarat. It should be a nice day but it will be cooler than Melbourne and much cooler at night. It is a good day to wear runners/sneakers/trainers and to bring extra warm clothing. It is not a fashion day!
Wednesday we start at the NGV on St Kilda Road. Look for the Mouse-Hole entrance on the right/north side of the gallery - close to the Arts Centre.

William McInnes
After a recurring role on A Country Practice in 1990, McInnes appeared in series such as Bligh, Ocean Girl, and Snowy before making his name as Senior Constable Nick Schultz on Blue Heelers in 1994. In 1999, he joined the cast of SeaChange as Max Connors, the new love interest of neurotic main character Laura Gibson (Sigrid Thornton ) He also had a recurring role as Colin in 2003's CrashBurn; and a noted comic turn as Sandy Freckle in two episodes of Kath & Kim, under the pseudonym "Rock Hampton".
McInnes lent his voice for the Nine Network factual series The Code: Crime and Justice also known as Crime and Justice.
In late 2007, he had the lead role in SBS's East West 101. In 2008, he also appeared in Network Ten's telemovie The Informant.
Early film roles include My Brother Jack (2001), Do Or Die (2001), Dirty Deeds (2002) and the TV Movie The Shark Net (2003).
McInnes featured in the lead role in Look Both Ways (2005), directed by his wife Sarah Watt. Subsequent film roles include in 2006 Irresistible, with Susan Sarandon, and Kokoda, the lead role in the romantic drama Unfinished Sky in 2007, and in 2009 Prime Mover, and Sarah Watt's follow-up film My Year Without Sex.

William released his first book A Man's Got to Have a Hobby on 1 August 2005. His second book Cricket Kings was released in 2006 and his third, That'd Be Right, in August 2008. His fourth book, The Making of Modern Australia, was released in 2010; it was accompanied by a television documentary series of the same name on the ABC that McInnes narrated.

Importantly to IMTAL
On 16 February 2009, John Faulkner, then Special Minister of State and Cabinet Secretary, appointed McInnes as the new Chair of the Advisory Council of the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House. McInnes has spoken in many of his media appearances about the museum and its work and the importance of democratic values and civics education.

2008 – Most Outstanding Actor at the Logie Awards, for East West 101
2008 – Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 50th Australian Film Institute Awards for Unfinished

Nigel Sutton
Nigel has worked as a professional performer, writer and creative consultant for over twenty years in theatre, film, television and corporate education. His work has taken him across the globe and it was in London that Nigel did his first work as a museum performer with the highly awarded, Museum of the Moving Image Actors Company (MOMI).
Nigel returned to Australia in the early 90’s and after touring the country with children’s theatre and innovative improvised education shows, he began pursuing his passion for performing in museums and cultural institutions.
In 1996 Nigel formed his company NDS Productions in response to the demand for his work in museum theatre and his expertise in using performance as an interpretive method to engage audiences. His extensive work in this field includes performances and creative consulting for over 50 major museum exhibitions and arts festivals, the development of tour products for conservation organisations, as well as touring outreach performance based programs for cultural institutions.
Nigel was lead consultant for the National Museum of Australia in the development and delivery of the first National Forum on Performance in Cultural Institutions, Raising The Curtain, held in Canberra 2002, the second National Forum on Performance in Cultural Institutions, Spotlight on Performance, held in Canberra 2003 and the Fourth Biennial International Museum Theatre Alliance Conference, Extending our Reach, held in Canberra Australia 2005.
Nigel runs specialised training workshops for guides, educators and interpretation staff in museums, art galleries, historic sites, cultural centres, zoos and conservation parks. Nigel is recognised as an innovator in the field of live interpretation and is currently delivering skills based master classes to cultural institutions across Australia.
Nigel is a professional actor and writer working in Corporate Entertainment, Television, Film and Theatre. His comedic talents are well known in Sydney from his involvement with Theatresports® as a player and popular host.
Nigel’s credits include, Celebrity Sydney Comedy Festival (actor/writer). Gods Day Off, Parramatta Riverside Theatre (actor/writer) The K-Way show, Sydney Design Festival (actor/writer) and 15 years of improvised comedy shows at Belvoir Street Theatre with Sydney Theatresports®
Television credits include: Joker poker, The Big Question, The Election Chaser, The Cameraa Trap, The Variety Show at the end of the World and host of TV1’s the SCI-FILES.

Due to many requests we have extended the Call for Papers/Presentations for the conference until the end of May.
We are looking for papers, workshops, performances and short Pecha Kucha presentations.
This month we will publish a sample schedule for the 4 main days of the conference as well as publish our conference registration form.

The skyrocketing Australian dollar is raising concerns for international visitors and suggestions for cheaper accommodation (although our conference hotel is very cheap) and other fundraising ideas to lessen conference costs are warmly welcome.

International Museum Theatre Alliance Asia Pacific (IMTALAP) is excited to announce the call for presentation proposals for the 7th International conference on Museum Theatre of Performance in Cultural Institutions on Sunday 16 – Thursday 20 October 2011.
This will be the first time that the conference is to be held in and is proudly hosted by Museum Victoria, Sovereign Hill Museums Association, National Sports Museum, National Gallery of Victoria, National Trust, CSIRO, State Library of Victoria, Fed Square, Old Treasury Building, Zoos Victoria, Performing Arts Centre and The Happy Android Company. The conference will provide an opportunity for those passionate about all forms of performance in cultural institutions to come together to explore, debate, discuss and connect ideas and practice.

The conference aims to be interactive and outcomes driven, and will be looking for creative and interactive presentations that incorporate participatory elements. The conference also aims to acknowledge academic rigor in the field of museum theatre, education and evaluation.

IMTAL Asia Pacific (IMTALAP) Mission & Philosophy

IMTALAP aims to represent and offer services to all of its members and also to partner members in IMTAL Americas and IMTAL Europe.

IMTALAP is
· the formal conduit for all museum theatre practitioners
· the overseeing organising team for forums and conferences
· the host for events with workshops, master classes and special guests
· advocate for performance in cultural organisations
· a promoter of academic rigor in the area of museum theatre

Conference Aims

· To provide an opportunity for creative, high quality, and interactive presentations.
· To celebrate the accomplishments of and provide showcase opportunities for the practitioners in our sector.
· To build on presentations from previous forums and conferences with a focus on looking at where the sector has traveled over the past few years and to explore where to from here.
· An opportunity to network with other practitioners in sector at an international level.

Target Audience

The conference is aimed at anyone involved in the development and delivery of museum theatre/performance in cultural institutions. This includes education and public program staff and volunteers in museums, galleries, zoos, historic sites and parks; independent contractors who are commissioned to deliver performances in cultural institutions; practitioners in the traditional realms of performance who have always wanted to perform in a cultural institution. It will also interest senior management in cultural institutions, policy makers and funding bodies so that they gain a greater understanding of this sector.

Conference Theme

The theme for the 7th Biennial Conference is “Access All Areas”.

Presentation Focus Areas
All proposals are encouraged to address the theme “Access all areas” AND one of the following key focus areas:

· Big Ideas
We want to start the conference exploring the really big ideas and then begin to narrow the focus in. What are the big issues, stories, exhibitions, performances, characters, changes, developments that we should be aware of, talking about, considering, reflecting upon.

· Reaching Out
A focus on ideas, issues and strategies around reaching out to audiences in our cultural institutions or the potential audiences that don’t reach us: how do we reach them?

· Access and participation
A focus on ideas, issues and strategies to address barriers which prevent people from accessing performances in cultural institutions both as audiences and participants whether it be due to age, disability or language, money, politics, geography or education.

· Innovation and technology
How do you embrace/reject/innovate technologies and how do you create performances for spaces with so many limitations.

Presentation Formats

IMTALAP is looking for a range of presentation formats with a focus on interaction, participation, research and evaluation.

Presentation of a complete or partial show with Q&A opportunity

6. Pecha Kucha (this session is scheduled for Monday 17 October in the evening and will take place in a private bar. We ran the same event in April in 2010 with great success.)
Information/research and knowledge sharing
1 presenter (we will appropriately group you with others)
Presenter shows 20 images for 20 seconds apiece (great way to showcase work)

Length of Presentations

Presentations (excluding Pecha Kucha and Extended Workshops/Offsite Tours) can be either:
· 45 minutes
· 90 minutes (2 back to back presentation slots)

There will be limits to the availability of time slots due to programming restrictions and room availability. We are currently planning for 120 participants.

Selection Criteria
A selection committee made up of IMTALAP representatives will select proposals based on the following criteria, while also taking into consideration the forum program balance:
· Relevance of the presentation to the forum theme and focus areas
· Originality, quality and currency of information/research
· Appropriateness of chosen presentation format
· Clearly stated and relevant objectives and outcomes
· Expertise and experience of presenter/s
· Relevance to target audience
· Level of involvement by participants
